Brief
This project involves creating the main visual design for the New Year special edition of Creation of the Gods I: Kingdom of Storms (2023) in France. It aims to present the film’s core characters and mythological elements through creative concepts and cross-cultural communication. The project includes the design of the French edition’s main poster as well as the conceptualization and design of related merchandise.Concept
During the design process, I extracted key visual elements from the film—mythological figures, weapons, and epic scenes—to develop visuals suited to the French market. The project combines the film’s large-scale narrative with emotional nuance, applying symbolic forms to ensure the visual language aligns with the film’s artistic identity and resonates with French audiences.
Background
Creation of the Gods I: Kingdom of Storms grossed over $373 million, ranking among the top-grossing mythological films in Chinese cinema. The film shifts from a simple “mythological tale” to a “human epic,” using a rational narrative to reinterpret the spiritual core of the Investiture of the Gods legend. Rather than focusing on divine battles, it centers on faith, order, and the collapse of human morality. Its visual effects and art direction achieved an unprecedented level of integration—the texture of bronze civilization, solemn ritual scenes, and a grand worldview together establish an Eastern epic aesthetic.

Poster Design
During the 2024 Chinese New Year season, Creation of the Gods I: Kingdom of Storms was released in France, screening in more than 140 cinemas across over 100 cities, with nearly 500 showings nationwide. Presented in its original Chinese audio with French subtitles, the film represented one of the most extensive theatrical releases of a Chinese-language production in the French market to date.
Promotional Merchandise Design
To promote the film’s release, Heylight Pictures distributed limited-edition promotional gifts to audiences in cinemas across France. The set of bookmarks was designed around the film’s five main protagonists, incorporating intricate weapon motifs drawn from their on-screen identities. The visual design reflects the film’s epic tone and refined Eastern aesthetics. Beyond their commemorative value, the bookmarks serve as an extension of the film’s narrative and emotional resonance, allowing viewers to carry a tangible piece of its mythical world beyond the theater.
